BOUNCY!

Ok, so the past two days at work have been kinda weird. I drove all the way to everett yesterday only to have everyone look at me like i was crazy and ask what i was doing there. The i got sent to snohomish--where i promptly got peed on by an old lady.....who wasn't actually in the room....yeah medical....

Today i was supposed to go back to everett, but i got a call at 6 45 this morning asking if I could go to marysville from 7-4 (cause THAT was totally gonna happen). well, I made it here and the first thing i get asked when i walk in is if i can stay later...oh dear....so strange.

In other news:

It would appear my mighty hunter is down for the count. Poor thing has been throwing up all day and not been feeling well at all. I'm guessing that he'll be fine, but mom was pretty worried. she said that he wouldn't let her rub his belly and that he was hissing at her so I'm gonna go check on him after work and it might be a trip to the vet's from there. pobre cito!

Stone the Bitch or Burn the Witch

Ok, so today I'm feeling a lot better. I had the morning off, so I had sometime to just chillax and get some things done around the house. I kinda wish i could afford to take the position I'm filling in for, but 20 hours a week won't be enough, not without a 2nd job.

On that note, I vote that we take a leaf out of Europe's book and go to a 30 hour work week. Heck, even 35 would be fine by me, I just don't do well working that much in any given week. Maybe it's just me being something of a home body, but I have lots of things to do around the house and i have a family to take care of (biological and otherwise).

Anyway, I'm excited cause i found another fun David Horsey quote (the title of this post actually) regarding hillary. You should check it out. seattlepi.com

The End of one thing...

Ok, I think I've been working WAY too much. I've been going a little crazy....

So last night I basically threw a fit. David was trying to make me feel better and I was SUPRE (that's right, it's a whole 'nother level) whiney. I guess i just wasn't in the mood to be all touchy and that's kind of how he communicates. Unfortunately I also didn't really have the words in my head to tell him that i didn't want to be around him, cause i did, i just didn't want to play... So to Daivd, I'm sorry. Mostly I'm tired and frustrated and i need some time off. I know I'll be going away in a couple of weeks, but it really seems like it's not soon enough.

Anyway, for those of you who hadn't figured it out yet, it's BAD to work 10 days straight. You really NEED the time off.

anyway, nothing really new to update. although i did start having wedding mightmares again....I'm not sure if that has to do with David or if it's just because July is looming in my head.

Fun comics and an update

Ok, so I have a new favorite comic:

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/mycage.asp

While you're there you should check out what David Horsey has to say about the WASL. SO TRUE!

Anyway, I have an update!

Ok, so not really, but i figured that all I've been posting is about weird not life related stuff and I'm sure you guys are SOOOO interested in what's going on in my personal life that you're just DYING to hear about it....whatever.

Point being I've got something of a dilemma. I'm in a relationship with a great guy and we've been together for going on 3 months now (wow that went fast!) and we've been talking recently about marriage. I don't know if i even should be THINKING about marriage. especially considering that i was supposed to be married to someone ELSE in a little over 3 months.....So what do you guys think?

The other thing is that the guy i was supposed to marry--while still gone--is stuck in my head. I keep thinking about him, wondering how he's doing and i keep worrying that he doesn't know that I'm in a new relationship already. I know that it doesn't really matter, but it worries me that he might call sometime and I'd have to tell him.

Maybe I'm freaking out about nothing, but it's kinda therapudic to share.

sick of edits

Ok, so there's lots of news this morning that i need to rant about and this one in particular strikes me.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/education/2004364815_wasl22m.html

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/360031_wasl22.html

ok, just so you all know (and I'm sure that the only people reading this already know, but just in case) I went through the secondary education program and Central and chose NOT to get my certificate because i will not do well in a High School setting as a teacher. During that education, the WASL came up several times in different classes because it's a HUGE issue for secondary ed.

This guy has a lot of guts and I think he should be commended. As teachers we are not allowed to--as they say--teach to the WASL. Meaning we are not allowed to give practice tests that are in the same form as the test we are not allowed to display writing samples from previous years for our students to prepare and we are not allowed to distribute the actual test from the previous year for students to study from. Non of this is legal--except the last bit--but district policies almost always forbid it. We are supposed to teach classes traditionally and hope to God that everything transfers. Granted, things are getting better and teachers are allowed to be more crafty and work with the loop holes, but it's still BS.

And before the question comes up, no I don't have a better alternative to standardized testing that can be implemented state wide, but i know that not all children can preform well on tests for reasons ranging from anxiety to favored method of learning. i know that the math and science portions are particularly difficult for visual/spatial learners because it's just numbers on the page most of the time and the parts that do have diagrams are oft times unclear as to what they are asking (yes i have taken the test. 3 times in fact.). There's been NOTED trouble with these sections of the test, even by the state--yet we still are expecting these kids to take it and to pass it with flying colors because SOMEHOW our teachers can magic the math into the kids heads. Kids get math/science skills one period a day which can be anywhere from 30-55 minutes depending on the day and on the school and about 90% of the time it's forgotten because it's not applied in their other classes.

The Reading/Writing portions can be difficult on kids who are logic oriented because a lot of the times they ask you to write about something in a creative fashion. There's also the problem of not letting students make up and experience for the sake of the test. They give out prompts like "describe a time when you did this, that, or the other thing and how you reacted" and there are kids out there, especially immigrants/ELL kids that just don't have those experiences. The one teacher who did encourage those kids to just make something up was reprimanded for telling them to use something OTHER than their experience. Well, what does the state expect them to do? Write down " i don't have that kind of experience in my life." They would fail the question for a) not answering it (which automatically gets you a 0) and b)only writing one line (which again, even if it answers the question usually gets you a 1 or worse).

If anything, the state would be better to implement something akin to the senior project were students work with an adviser to create something that proves they've learned anything. This would give kids who are "hands on" learners a chance to succeed in the testing when before they would have failed no matter what kind of teacher they had. Now, I'm not saying that just because a kid is this type of learning means that they CAN'T pass the WASL--it's just particularly unlikely. I know that with hard work and studying kids can do quite a bit more than we usually give them credit for. What I'm trying to express is that given the option to take a standardized test or--for example--rebuilt the interior of a car, they would do better with the proverbial car. Both accomplish the same goal of testing how well a student can read, write, and do math just in different ways. The project takes in to account a students personal interests which is a HUGE help in getting students to work on it.

So, give Mr. Carl Chew a medal and tell the state exactly where they can stick their standardized tests.

Little Rant

Good morning everyone!

ok, so i was reading this article about groceries and got a kick out of one of the quotes:

"'It's the eating-out part now that we've really cut back on, not necessarily because it's gotten more expensive. It's just that the grocery bill has gotten more expensive.'

'Long term, who knows?' said Sheridan, 39, director of development for the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County and an Albertsons and Costco shopper. 'We might have to plan meals based on what's on sale in the store.'"

God save us, we might have to plan meals based on what's on SALE?! cause I haven't been doing THAT forever already.....

as pepsi says: WAKE UP PEOPLE!

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004362688_foodprices21.html

ok, now that I'm done with my little rant....

This weekend was AWESOME. We had snow which kind of sucked, but I got to spend a lot of time with David which was super fun. we've been playing FFX-2 and we had a lot of time saturday to just goof around with it. Sunday was super fun too. i got up really late and wound up making everyone pancakes and then the boys ran off to some movie (forbidden kingdom I think) and David and i went to monroe to get a few things from Fred Meyer. We ran into Clay and stopped to talk with Jenni while she was at work (estas bien mija! Hang in there ok!) and she was soooooooooo ready to go by the time we got there. i think she had like an hour left or soemthing.

Anyway, so we went to see John Elridge talk which was interesting. The talk wasn't all that powerful, but he was very real and open with the crowd. I think that he was a little wore out from doing the same talk over and over cause he spent a little under half the time with Q and A. That seemed to be the most useful part of things. David and I met him afterward and got a poster signed by him. He's really an interesting guy. I didn't talk with him, but he really didn't seem to know what to do with the two of us....probably because we looked like bikers...lol I should have gotten pictures of the pair of us. you guys would have laughed.

Afterward we met with some of David's forum friends and kept the poor Red Robin waitress at work WAY later that she should have been. All in all it made for a really late night, but it was worth it I think.

Blah Blah Snow and stuff

ok, so yet again I'm here at work wishing we had full internet access. It's really like being in school again. I get all of my work done first and have to sit around while everyone else catched up with nothing to do and no book to read. I have to make myself content with reading policies and playing on the few sites i can access. Thank God for the PI crossword.

Also: WTF is with the snow? hasn't anyone told Mom Nature that it's effing spring.....or at least that this is WESTERN WASHINGTON we get all the rain remember not the snow BS

EDIT:

...ok, so i was reading more about the bombing that happened last week...you know where the guy was makeing bombs in the house that he blew up. Here's what the sherrif had to say about it:

"We believe he was going to do something bad," Troyer said. "The stuff that he was making wasn't meant to blow up the house. It was meant to hurt people." [taken from everett harold article as seen here > http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20080418/NEWS03/926158670#Man.who.blew.up.house.also.linked.to.death]

congratulations....the guy making bombs was gonna do 'something bad' you're a real quick wit you are.....

Fight! fight! fight!

Yeah, that's right...it's all fun and games till someone loses a walker.....

ok, so I'm at work today (i work for a medical facility) and I'm playing guard-cat for the front door. I'd been here for like 30 minutes and two guys (one retirement age and one young father) start yelling at each other out the front door.....it wouldn't have been so scary except our security guard doesn't get here until 3:30 and I'm the one who would have to break up the fight....*cries*

It is definitely an experience that makes you realize how much of a little girl one really is. particularly me. I've been working at my cushy job and whilst the snack cake diet seems to be helping get the weight down i still have like 0 muscle. AHHHH!

luckily it didn't come to anything, but again...definitely makes you think.

This is AWESOME!

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120814163599712081.html?mod=yhoofront

I particularly liked this bit:

"Some participants showed up with specific pillow-fighting techniques in mind. "I like to come down over the top because I get more velocity that way," says Guy Monahan, 19, who showed up in a kilt and blue face paint. He was holding a pillow and a teddy bear (his shield)."

politics

This was taken HORRIBLY out of context, but it worries me that Hillbilly would say this:

"On Monday, Clinton told the Alliance of American Manufacturing in Pittsburgh: "I believe that people don't cling to religion, they value their faith. You don't cling to guns, you enjoy hunting or collecting or sport shooting," she said."

The whole article is about Obama's comment on the 6th regarding blue collar workers and can be read here:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2004349457_campbitter15.html

Seriously guys, she worries me....I try to stay mostly out of the whole political scene, but this time i have to say: don't vote for the woman. She looks like she would shake babies and she lies like a wet rug. I don't care if you want to write in Fred Flintstone, but just don't put hillbilly in charge.

EDIT:

I love David Horsey...Read this------>

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/horsey/viewbydate.asp?id=1746

On the Sonics

Ok, so personally I don't care much for basketball--other than the occasional driveway game--but I must say NOT haveing the sonics in Seattle will be a little strange. For those of you who don't have the time to read the PI/Times every day, here's David Horsey's take on things:

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/horsey/viewbydate.asp?id=1743

and here's Wingnut700's take on it

/#1876

Posted by Wingnut700 at 4/10/08 5:13 a.m.

I propose new name for the Oklahome City basketball team: The Bombers./

Rock on Wingnut.

EDIT:

ON THE TIMES

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/jerrylarge/2004338897_jdl10.html

It looks like the times is gonna need a little help with funds. I suggest everyone who can subscribes to the paper. even if it only helps a little, it will give circulation a boost and as i understand it if circulation is boosted then more advertisers perk up.

wondering what you can do with a newspaper after reading it:

www.paperplane.org
www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=683
familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts/cutpaste/feature/famf39newspaper
familycrafts.about.com/od/newspapercrafts

I will issue one warning though: i didn't get to look at these sites, so if they're a little crazy I apologize. i know that familyfun is related to Kraft.com and relativly safe and About.com is part of an evil soul sucking monster. Enter each site at your own risk.

Writer's Block: Such a Chore

What's your least favorite chore?

View other answers

I thought for a long time that it was the dishes, but it seems that i dislike any chore that involves cleaning up a mess i had nothing to do with. i.e. when i don't MAKE the dishes dirty, but i have to clean them up.....

Random Celtic Stuff

Ok, so recently I've learned that i hum different types of music based on my mood. relatively normal right? well...sort of.

The strange bit seems to come that when i start to hum it sounds mostly tuneless and then i can sort of make it into a song. not anything grand mind you, but it's kind of fun to discover that you're still creative enough to makeup tunes.

anyway: I've been working on a new picture. I'm gonna try to get back to mom's at some point this week and post it either here or on myspace. My problem seems to be the colors though. what (ASIDE FROM BLUE!) relays a general feeling of calm and softness? my subject is a flower in a vase so no worries about relaying emotion through facial features. I just need to broaden my colors beyond blue and grey. I don't mind using them, but i dont' want the whole picture to be done in them.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: Also I have REALLY good pictures of everyone at bowling that I'll be posting on myspace sometime this week...

I really should think about getting a photobucket account.

people are stupid.

a person is very samrt, but people are stupid.

working customer service i have found that people have no concept of "out of my hands" or "someone else is working on this" people expect that you are the one hunting things down all the time and if you are standing (or sitting around) even if you ARE doing your job or helping someone else they expect that you should be moving around helping them.

What do they want? Should i dance while i wait for the backstaff to find whatever it is they were supposed to pick up? do they expect that i have the power to interrupt the docs and get them to do whatever i ask?

wow...people are stupid some days

re: glasses

Ok, so I went to the vision center yesterday and they fixed my glasses in like a minute! YAY!

Also, I've got a bug in my hat and i want to know what you guys think.

I know that there are a lot of us that go to sakura con every year and that there are a lot of us that like it because it's a smaller environment and everyone kind of knows everyone and everyone gets all the inside jokes. So what do you guys think about having a large get together and making something of our own con/anime club?

like i said, it's just a bug in my hat right now (meaning a newborn idea for those of you who don't know nat speak), but if you have input/Ideas for it let me know and I'll work with it.

Thanks!

Man! I set my glasses down on my desk at work and then they fell on the floor and in all the hustle and the bustle my glasses got squished.

Cry cry.

Anyway, I'm gonna go over to the eye place at lunchtime to see if they can fix them, otherwise, I'll have to get my eyes checked again and get new glasses.

Taking Flight

Have you ever had a song/cd/movie/play/whatever that held a very deep meaning for you and then have the meaning be completly turned on its head?

For a long time the CD meteora had a very negative meaning/connotation for me and now I'm facing that it can be turned around and given a very hopeful meaning. It's kind of weird to face, but it's also a huge learning experience on my part. I kinda hope you guys get to know that at some point.

Anyway...

That was my randome thought of the week. In other news--We still haven't really found a place, but that's ok for now. Due to randomness we don't really have the money to move this month. If anyone hears/sees something in the Snohomish/Monroe/LakeStevens area for cheap let me know though. The hope is for a two bedroom just cause we have that much stuff, but I'd be willing to look into other options for the right price.

Also, I've been going back and forth with Kevin recently so if anyone hears any random bad stuff about me from him it's cause I called him a bastard and and idiot. He thinks I'm playing somekind of "I know something you don't" game with him when really I just know some stuff about him that he's not too proud of (and yes, it's under confidentiality so no, I can't release it)

alright, I'm done rambling now.

Check out real big fish.
